MakeHuman

The first thing I want to say is that I don't think I love making avatars. Overall, I tend to get a little bogged down by the features and struggle to put the pieces together. That said, I did my best here and am happy enough with the results.

The original story around the world I made involved a cult-like society in which everyone looked the same. I had a more stylized vision in mind, where they looked more like cartoonish creatures. Using MakeHuman, however, allowed me to make someone who looked like a cultist and copy him across the map, forming some sort of odd social interaction (like the birthday in the original short story we created).

Mixamo

I have used Mixamo in another class, so I didn't have much issue getting my characters into the software.

I had one bug where the hand and wrist rigging wouldn't work, but adjusting the model in MakeHuman fixed the issue.

Nevertheless, I pulled a lot of different animations and tried to create a couple vignettes.

I made:

I will add videos in a section below.

Radical Capture

Radical motion was really interesting. The idea that we can use our iPhones for basic motion capture is super cool. In order to get a feel of this, I wanted to shoot my own video.

I made a couple where I started standing and sat down in a comfortable position. I tried it with criss-cross, but it gets a bit confused when the legs cross. Then, I tried a more casual sitting position, but it doesn't like losing the joints during the "foreshortening" of the body.

Overall, this was a cool exercise and I did end up using one of the more "broken" animations.
